We have gone and brewed a Scottish classic, an Eighty Shilling, but with a bit of Kiwiana (A sense of NZ pop culture).
A malt blend of Double Roasted Crystal, Special Belgium and Melanoidin play together, creating a deep reddish brown hue and full body. Layers of biscuit, toffee and raisin are hopped with Wai-Iti and Southern Cross for delicate fig notes with a hint of spice.
This beer style got its name from the beer and taxation laws in Scotland in the 19th century, when beer was taxed on the alcohol content. In the case of 4.0% to 5.5%, it was taxed 80 shilling, hence the name 🍺
