Moonwake Lager is a precision pairing of our Leith Shore location and our head brewer’s New Zealand roots. Soft, Scottish water, our best local resource, is ideal for brewing Lager. We add Kiwi hops, Motueka and Wakatu, which are descended from traditional Noble varieties used in continental lagers. The result is a crisp, mellow beer with a citrus kick.
Brewed with all New Zealand hops, but they're all descendants of German Noble varieties - hops that have been used in Lagers for generations.
In this beer, we have used Motueka and Wakatu which are descendants of the classic Saaz and Hallertau hops that have been traditionally used in German lagers from the continent for many, many years.
The malt for this beers comes from the borders in Scotland and England, from Simpson's Malt, who are leading the way with their approach to sustainability. The grist for this beer is made up of pale malt, Munich malt and a bit of wheat so it gives you those great bread-malt qualities that you would expect from a classic beer style from Continental Europe.
In October 2023, we won a gold award for Premium Lagers in Scotland at the Society of Independent Brewer's regional keg awards.

Thanks to the hops in this beer you are also getting fruity, floral notes alongside those malt characteristics to create a balanced and interesting beer. They come on zinging through the highly carbonated beer and just give you a smidge more bitterness than your standard Lager.
Sticking with our ethos of making approachable, sessionable beers - particularly for those we have available all year round - our Lager is 4.8% alcohol by volume.
It's a beer that stays true to our values of being Precision Brewed but also gives us a bit of something different with a unique, modern take on a classic style.
